If you’ve been following me on Instagram or Twitter, then you’ve seen a sudden influx of pictures of me with small dogs. If you’re wondering what that was about, you’re in the right place! This past week, mom and I had the chance to attend the 5th annual BarkWorld Expo at Loews Hotel in Atlanta. We received our tickets free of charge, although I don’t think anyone realized I had my own blog and would be writing about it.
BarkWorld is a conference geared towards pet bloggers, small business owners with pets, and anyone else who loves animals. Although it is called “Bark” World, the conference welcomes cat owners too. In fact, we saw one very brave cat hanging out in the sea of dogs!
BarkWorld is a 3 day conference, although beginning in 2016 they will be offering a special “bonus day” for bloggers. The first day featured a welcome party in the evening, and the next two days were a mixture of panels, parties, and keynote addresses.
From a panel on SEO strategies to a speech by Luigi “Shorty” Rossi, better known as “The Pit Boss,” there was something for everyone at BarkWorld. My favorite presentation was by Canopy Cat Rescue, a two man team dedicated to getting cats out of high places in the Pacific Northwest.
They talked why they do what they do, why it’s important to spay and neuter, and shared a few helpful tips for if your own cat ever gets stuck up a tree! For example, don’t leave food at the base of a tree to lure a cat down. This can attract predators, which will scare the cat into staying put!
There were a lot of sponsors and vendors at BarkWorld, too! One of my favorite booths was the Halo pet food booth. Halo is currently having an instagram and twitter promotion- if you post a picture of you and your pet and tag it #BarkWorld and #HaloFeedItForward, Halo will donate a meal to a shelter pet in need! We received several samples of Halo, which I planned to photograph and write about, but the pets found it in my swag bag before I could get to it. They give it two non-opposable thumbs up!
BarkWorld 2015 was a star-studded event. Not only did we see Shorty Rossi, the Pit Boss, and Gus Kenworthy, an Olympic silver medalist, we also met Tuna the ChiWeenie! I didn’t get a picture with him thanks to his adoring fans, but I got pictures with plenty of other instagram famous dogs, like The Sochi Stray! Or perhaps you’ve heard of Surfin’ Jack? We met her too!
All in all, BarkWorld was a jam-packed three day adventure in Atlanta! My mom learned plenty of SEO tips for her blog, and I got much closer to my goal of petting every dog in the world. Maybe I can go back next year and even take one of our dogs!
