So far, I have talked a LOT about the physical aspects of having hyperemesis gravidarum. The physical aspects are the most obvious- it’s hard to hide the weight loss, constant vomiting, and loss of muscle tone. What’s easier to hide, but just as debilitating, is the mental and emotional aspects of hyperemesis. The emotional and mental aspects of hyperemesis gravidarum are just as hard to cope with and relieve as the physical symptoms, but they seem to get talked about a lot less.
From an unhealthy obsession with food to a debilitating fear of eating anything, the symptoms can vary from person to person, or even from hour to hour! Some of the mental and emotional symptoms are due to physical symptoms, but plenty more are entirely thanks to weird human brains. If you’re reading this and have HG, I want you to know that all of your emotions- even the nitty gritty ones you don’t want to talk about- are valid.
